How to get to Florianópolis

✈️ Flights & Connections

Connections in São Paulo: For those arriving from abroad, it's common to connect in São Paulo (Guarulhos - GRU).

There, you'll need to collect your luggage, go through immigration and customs, and then recheck your luggage for the next flight to Florianópolis. Therefore, we recommend a connection time of at least 1.5 hours.
This is a standard procedure in Brazil, and clear signs are posted at the airport.

Tip: Book in advance to ensure better prices, especially in February, which is peak season.

The main entry point is Hercílio Luz International Airport (FLN)

🇧🇷 Passport and Visa

Passport: Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned travel dates. Brazil also requires a blank page for both entry and exit stamps.

Visa: US passport holders require a visa to enter Brazil. This electronic visa must be requested before travel and can be completed online. The process is usually quick, but we recommend applying a few weeks before your trip. You can apply here: https://brazil.vfsevisa.com/

🚙 Getting Around

🚗 Car Rentals

Renting a car is an excellent option for exploring the island freely, as it's large. You'll need your driver's license and passport to rent. We recommend downloading the rental company's app and booking your car in advance to ensure better selection and availability. On the ground floor of the airport's arrivals area, you'll find several rental companies, including:

  • Localiza: Offers a wide variety of vehicles and online booking facilities (this is also our preferred choice).

  • Movida: Known for its modern fleet and quality service.

  • Unidas: Offers several flexible models and plans.

📱 Uber

  • Availability: Uber service operates 24 hours a day in Florianópolis, including at the airport.

  • Meeting Point: There are designated areas for app-based passenger pick-up at the airport.

🚕 Taxi

  • Availability: Taxis are available at the airport and at various points throughout the city.

  • Fares: Prices are generally higher than Uber, especially during peak season.

🧭 Final Tips

📞 Check your mobile operator's international roaming service to make sure you'll have internet when you land.

High Season: February is summer in Brazil, so book flights and accommodations in advance.

Public Transport: The bus network is limited, so renting a car or using transport apps is more convenient.

Traffic: During the summer, traffic can be heavy, especially at the beach entrances. Plan your trips in advance.
